Can someone explain this to me??
If I have basic cable, will this box give me the HD versions of the channels I have?? For example TNT in HD. Thanks.

What Box? Not the basic cable box. You'll need an STB with a QAM tuner built in such as the LG models or a MOTO box that you lease from cable for the unencrypted channels.

Sorry, I was thinking faster than my typing.
I'm looking at the Samsung SIR-T451 because Circuit City claims it has QAM capabilities.

No... in most all areas, everything BUT local channels/networks are encrypted (if carried by your local provider). Therefore you will need the cable provider's STB or CableCard (if your TV has that capability).
