I recently installed the Comcast (Motorola) 6412 STB. I have one problem I simply can't resolve. If I have selected a program to record, unattended, and then return before the recording is finished, the DVR has gone into "mute" mode and I cannot get audio out unless I cycle power to the unti, killing the recording.

Any suggestions?

The unit mutes on recording so it doesn't "wake you" if the recording happens at 2AM for example and you left A/V Receiver on. I would have thought that any appropriate button press should disable the mute, but others with this unit may be able to provide better advice.

Your STB's remote defaults to controlling the volume & mute of your set and not the STB. You can unlock the volume control to work for the STB volume and mute. The best solution though is to program a specific button on your remote to work as your mute button for your STB like FAV or HDZOOM if you have the silver remote. Will look for the thread with the info and post back.

Found it: http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=14677&highlight=skip

The link on the 1st post has all the codes you need for the functions of the remote. Follow the steps outlined and you'll be able to add 30 second skip and cable mute to your preferred buttons. See post number 2 cause sometimed when reprogramming it might cause something else to stop working.

my STB does this too, I never knew WHY though, it makes sense. I simply programmed the STB remote's MUTE key into my master remote control to release the muting....
