Did anyone else see the Andy Richter show last night on Fox. I could swear at the beginning it said in lower right corner of screen "Fox Widescreen High Definition". Then again, the logo was pretty small on my 26in screen from 20 feet away, and maybe I was mistaken (I'm waiting on delivery of a Hitachi 57swx that I just bought from Sears).

I'm sorry to say that it was definitely NOT high definition. FOX does not offer any high definition programming. FOX does offer widescreen digital programs that are comparable to DVD quality though, at 480p.

It is misleading because FOX tries to make believe that FOX Widscreen High definition is HD when actually it is HIGHER definition than regular TV, but LOWER than real HD.

To their credit, I don't recall Fox ever indicating in their news bulletins or anywhere that they are high definition. They properly refer to it as Enhanced Definition Widescreen.

edit, 2002.12.04 - unless of course they don't refer to EDTV at all and "infer" that they produce an HD signal....

Here's were they refer FOX Widescreen Digital TV to HDTV. My local area's fox website says HDTV in nice big bold letters too. Very misleading too.

www.wtvt.com

Look on the left for the logo that says HDTV and click on it. Then it says what channel to turn too on your HDTV set to receive their digital signal. They clearly call their signal HDTV and you can't intrepret it any other way but as HDTV.

Very misleading in deed.

To receive FOX 13’s Digital television signal, turn to channel 12 on your (HDTV) High Definition Television set ....a "digital television signal". They do, however, have two references to HDTV (one on the original page as you mention, and this one on the linked page referring to "your HDTV".

They don't lie, but they certainly mislead, just as you say...

HDTV information is very much a case for "caveat emptor". You'll recall the Gateway plasma for $3k that said all kinds of things about HDTV, but if you wade through the fine print, you realize that it's only capable of EDTV (480P), just like Fox.

Repeat, again and again, do your research and "buyer beware"...
