Does anyone have a problem with pixelation on HD or SD satellite programming? I have noticed it on Super Definition broadcasts on my ExpressVU Satellite. Although this is usually a sign of bad weather or poor dish alignment, this is not the case here. I thought it might be related to the amount of data required for SD & HD pictures and the hardware decoding. I wanted to be sure that the model 6000 does not have these symptoms B4 I purchase.

What was it that you noticed the pixelation on?
Pixelation has MANY factors that might contribute to it. Not all of which can be controlled by BEV. For the most part BEV seems to keep the bandwidth level for HDTV at a fairly good level, so with a clean source it looks absolutely phenominal. Sometimes the source they are getting the signal from does not provide enough bendwidth for the source and you get pixelation. Sometimes it is more of the application that is being filmed that is the problem, as I think we were seeing during the Olympic speed skating during certain very high motion shots, which is really a factor of the MPEG2 compression used. And sometimes it's just a glitch of the signal level you are getting from the sattelite.
So, I would say that, for the most part, pixelation happens. How annoying it is is more a factor of tolerance. I don't mind the amount of pixealtion I occasionally get as long as I am getting such a crystal clear HD picture. To me it is no different than the occasional ghosting or snow or any other picture anomoly I might otherwise get in an analog SD picture, so I'm fine with it. That may not be the case for you. *shrug*

Currently I'm using the C-Band 4DTV satellite tv system.
The picture and sound quality is the big plus with the "BUD" (Big Useful Dish)..... The true 480i standard definition is wonderful, a very clean source(then upconverted to 960 in my SONY XBR RPTV)....definitely adds to the enjoyment of watching movies and 5.1 sound....
The mini-dish systems as we all know is 2nd generation feeds, audio and video compressed . Produces that "fuzzy or out of focus" look.... (pixelation)
Currently 5 HD channels also available.....
More info can be at:

Assembling a system is not difficult......and you will glad you did!
Nothing beats the C/KU-Band satellite tv system in picture quality and the abundance of programming choices at lower costs.....
The dish is bigger, system costs little more than those HD pizza-pan video compressed systems, but alot easlier on the eyes when watching it.....I had a mini-dish, I know......

I think its more a question of the source broadcast than the satellite receiver.
Pixelation on Masters was on both cable and satellite
