I'm having a problem using an HDMI switcher from Dtrovision. The problem is when I switch sources from the DVD to the Cablebox the image on my plasma is all green. I then have to turn off the plasma and then turn it back on to reset the display. I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma TH-50HD7UY mounted on the wall with a 12 meter HDMI cable from BetterCables .com to the HDS-21R HDMI switcher. The switcher has 2 inputs. I have a Sony DVP-NS975 using a HDMI cable out to the switcher and a Motorola DT6412 HD/ DVR cable box from Comcast using the DVI output with a DVI to HDMI cable out to the siwtcher.

I have contacted Dtrovision and they have given great support but I am still having to power off the Plasma to restore the image. The problem only happens when I go back to the cable box, there is no problem switching to the DVD source. Can anyone help ?? Thanks

It's probably a HDCP 'handshake' issue when switching to/from the cable box and there may not be a workaround unless the Dtrovision folks have a solution. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't be optimistic.

For most "handshakes" the TV has to be on first or there has to be a signal sent (like when you switch the TV on). In this case, when you switch, the STB is on first. Some TVs do shake hands every few seconds, so if you waited those few seconds, it's possible you would not have to turn the TV on/off.

Do you know if there are other HDMI switchers that may work ?

Why not give the vendor another call and pose your question about the HDCP situation? See what they have to propose as a solution (if that's the problem).

reply from Dtrovision...All our switches are HDCP compliant. One suspicion we have is that the
Pace box does not allow enough time for the handshake to happen and
thus, does not allow any peripheral placed between TV and cable box.
This is not in line with the spec.

Definitely try another unit and see if the problem is solved.

Well... this is beyond my help, but if they are correct with their assumptions, then it looks as if you have to throw this problem to the cable provider (and good luck with that! :) ).

Also... if they are correct, a different switch will probably not resolve your issue.

Hopefully, perhaps another Pace Box user that also uses an HDMI switcher may chime in.

I am looking for a good/not too expensive HDMI Switcher. Any suggestions?

Is it good? Any preferences between it and the Gefen counterpart?

P.S. Would Monster HDMI-HDMI cables make a difference? Either Monster HDMI400-1M or D1000DAV-1M?

Many thanks for any assistacne you can provide.

Berto41..I am only familiar with the HDS-21R, so I wouldn't be able to comment on your question. Is it "new" , I don't know that either. I will tell you that I was having problems switching sources and I called Dtrovision and they sent me a new switcher, it fixed the switching problem but I still have the "handshake" issue. I haven't yet tried swapping out the Motorola cablebox for another one, been too busy. That is my next step to try.
I bought my HDMI cables from bettecables.com, they're not cheap, but well made.
