Hey guys, first time poster here.
I just got an 8300HD and everthing is working fine. Rogers is my provider. Basically, I read a review on the net that you can hook up the 8300HD to your MAC via svideo cable, and then record right to your mac through third party software. I was wondering is this true, and if so, is any software + guide on how to do this, but on a PC?

It would only record standard definition.

I would assume that you could use some type of PCI 'capture card'. Normally the software comes with the card.

Here's some ideas:

SD is fine, but I dont think you would need the capture card. your just displaying whats coming from the pvr to the monitor, then capturing it with software.

Does your PC have an S-Video "input"?

I don't believe there is any way to "capture" what's being displayed on the monitor from an external source and written to the HDD of the PC. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're try to accomplish.

Inputs or outputs?

they are inputs. Such as I can plug my tv into my pc via svideo and watch movies on my tv playing off my pc

That would be an output.

My PC (as well as a few others) has a video board. VGA to the monitor and S-Video out to the TV (set to "clone" mode).

In order for what you would like, you need a video "input" board which is easily accomplished with some of the solutions in the links provided above.
