Hi everyone -- long time reader, first time poster. I'm hoping maybe someone here can help me out.

Here's my problem. I have a Panasonic S97 DVD player hooked up to a 46" Samsung DLP (HLR-4677) using the HDMI cable that came with the DVD player. At least 4-5 times per hour while watching a DVD, the video and audio will cut out for a few seconds (and the screen will either be completely black, or I'll see a message on the TV that says "HDMI signal weak or disconnected"). (This is a different error message when the cable itself is disconnected, which is "check signal cable", so I don't think it's a loose connection issue).

I've ruled out any physical problems with the discs, as I can rewind and the problem never happens in the exact same place, and it happens with all the DVDs I watch. Checked the connections, everything seems to be secure. So now I am totally at a loss as to whether the problem is with the DVD player, the cable, or the TV itself.

Anyone have any insights on this? Are HDMI cables subject to interference (in which case, perhaps I should get a better quality cable)? Or does this sounds like a defect with the components of eitehr the TV and DVD player? (both relatively new, and the problem started happening from the beginning). Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I'd start with the cable, the fact that the tv states there is a problem with the HDMI connection points at just that, a HDMI connection problem. Pick up a cable you can return locally and try it out. If it fixes the problem and the price wasn't that bad, keep it, if it doesn't resolve your problem, return it, if the price was high, order one online then return it... A good online cable should run you like $25-$30...

Weird, I had the same thing happen with my HD DVD from LG Electronics!! OF COURSE, the unit was just out of warranty, but for $35.00 they are replacing it. The signal did exactly what you dsescribed and then finally went out.... I bought new Accoustic Research Cables and all, still nada.... So I am replacing the DVD unit. When I get it back in I'll report in..
