Need some help with a Direct tv with tivo

I am looking into getting one of these and i have a couple of questions. First does the tivo service need a phone line or do the updates for the tivo come in through the Direct tv dish.

Secondly if the case is that it does require a phone line does anyone know of a direct tv with Tivo set top box that the usb ports work on so i could hook it up to my wireless network and not have to run a phone line into my living room (which is what im trying to avoid)

It needs a phone line for the initial setup.

None of the Directv models support the USB ports though I believe there is a hack you can do to enable it, check the tivocommunity.com forums for more info on that.
