We have owned an AKAI PT5499HD Projection Television for approximately seven months. Just last week after I turned on the television I noticed what appeared to be a 3D image on the screen similar to the image you would see if you were watching a 3D movie without the 3D glasses.
I did some BBS searching and it seems as though the problem I have encountered is referred to as "Convergence" or a "Convergence Problem". After calling the AKAI warranty telephone number I was referred to a repair shop that is approximately 2 hours away from our home. To have the repair person come out would be cost prohibitative. Besides the repair shop indicated they no longer are set up for Projection Television Repair. So with that having been said I am wondering how difficult it would be for me "A total newbie" to correct the problem by "adjusting" the Convergence settings in the TV? I have been told that there should be "Four" convergence settings in the back of the television after I remove the TV backing.
Am I way off base to attempt to "adjust" the convergence problem?" should I try to locate a local repair shop that will make house calls? The TV is 52" and I do not own a pick up truck...
Any and all suggestions are welcomed. The parts are under warranty according to the Warranty telephone number I called however, they are the same ones that put me in touch with a repair shop that no longer deals with Projection Television Repairs.
HELP?!?!?!
