I just got myself a Pioneer 61" Plasma Display model number PDP-614MX. which has what they call it DVI-D 24 pins connection. This one has 2 vertical pins next to the horizontal pin.

I got a Apple portable 17" screen computer that has this other attached connection. This one is 4 smaller pins around the horizontal pin.

I was wondering if I need a special cable to make this computer connect to my Plasma, or a regular DVI cable will do the trick.

Pictures attached as follows...

Here's background info on the differences of DVI interfaces:

So... what are you connecting? A Panasonic, Pioneer, Apple or all?

From a quick quess... you may need converters to go from one to the other. And that may not even work.

why did I even mentioned Panasonic?!...LOL...I dont know...scratch Panasonic...I got an Apple Computer with what I think is Dual DVI-I according to your picture, and I have a Pioneer 61" Plasma with what it looks like (according to your link) a Dual Link DVI-D....

How can I connect this computer to my Plasma? or what is even easier...How can I connect my Dual Link DVI-I to my Dual Link DVI-D?

Thanks for your prompt response Ratman!

Best you can do is try a DVI-D/DL cable (since there are no analog pins).

But... the DVI-I from the Apple may require the analog pins. If so... you're SOL.

those extra 4 pins are audio.

and my Comcast box has those extra 4 pins in that connector.. but my Sharp TV doesnt, it has a headphone jack type input for the audio part of that connector.

so im out of luck.

DVI doesn't carry audio, the extra 4 pins should be for the analog connection, DVI can be analog, digital or both depending on the equipment and connection type.

dang, i AM still a noob...

but... then how do you use the comcast DVI if theres no associate audio... ahh i guess the only way is if you have a receiver.. which i sold all mine a while ago.

DVI is video only.

if you want digital audio, you have to connect the digital coax (orange?) to an A/V receiver.

RCA outs on the STB to a RCA to 1/8" stereo adapter on your TV.. That set you have is an oddball when it comes to DVI audio, most have a standard set of RCA audio jacks with the DVI input.
