Newbie here!

Would there be a large advantage switching from the s-video cable to a component cable?

Thanks!

Component video cables must be used to carry high definition signals (or DVI or Firewire). They will not provide a large boost in picture quality for other signals, but it may be noticeable for DVDs, etc.

If you have a HD tv go with the components..... much clearer picture..... plus thats the only way you will be able to play the few 480p games on PS2

Is the PS2 progressive scan? I was lead to believe that the PS2 is not progressive scan!! So how can you have progressive scan games without a progressive scan dvd-r?

And if there are 480p games which ones?

Lastly, has anyone used the Monster game cables? I was on onecall and Monster finally has gaming cables and I was wondering if anyone is using them?

I don't like Monster for gaming...so, i use OEM Sony & XboX HDTV wiring. I like using the cables that are made for the gaming platform.

As for Monster Products. I use a normal XBOX HD Pack and For my PS2 I use Monster Components :)
I prefer Monster only cause theyre heavier quality.

Other PS2 480P games are Bounty Hunter and Robotech.

I was using Monster component cables ($60) for my PS2 until the blue failed after 4 mo. I bought the Sony component cables as a stop gap ($25). I could not tell a difference in picture quality so I kept the Sony cables.

Im using a set of AR component cables on my PS2-36" panasonic and they make a "very" noticable difference with all games and DVD's. The only problem is that you must have a Digital Reciever to get any sound since they dont come with RCA's for Dolby Surround...

When did AR start making cables for the PS2, or is that because your in canada. The only reason I ask is because in the states Monster makes the components here............

I love the CP72. It seems very sensitive to scratches or dirt on the disk. Sometimes it pauses or pixelates, but when I rewind and play that same section again it will be exactly the same flaw. So I am thinking these problems are from the disk.

Once I got the sound and knew what to look for, the PS2 just wouldn't cut it any more. :)

The only problem I have had with the CP72 is the delay in layer switching.........On certain DVD's it take 1-2 seconds to switch layers......it causes a slight pause in the play back...Most recently during the "Road to Perdition" between the scene where Tom Hanks tells him he is going to teach him to drive and the driving scene. I am not 100% sure this is layer switching but I read an article at www.homethearterspot.com on the issue..

BTW: I found the switching for SOCOM to 480p but I can't find the option on Rachet & Clank!
