View Full Version : SA8300HD and Olevia DVI problem

Hello everyone. I've been searching everywhere about HDTV stuff and I like what I see around here, so I wanted to ask everyone a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to.

I have an Olevia LT32HV television, an XBox and DVD player connected to both component inputs and a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD with Passport software connected with an HDMI-to-DVI cable.

The cable box works fine, and the picture is nice and clear (except for some weird lines appearing sporadically on the sides or the top of the picture, and sometimes the picture doesn't fill the screen entirely and I can't adjust it). Overall, it's about the same as component , which I expected would be the case. The problem is, every time I switch to one of my component inputs, the box stops transmitting a signal to the DVI and when I switch back it tells me my TV isn't HDCP compliant. I'm guessing it loses its "handshake" or whatever it's called, and can't get it back. I have to turn everything off and on again to get it working (what an annoyance!).

I don't know if this happens on other TVs too, but I would like to know if there's something I can do about this so I don't have to keep re-power everything every time. I sent Syntax an e-mail about this but I'm not sure how long it will take them to respond. I have a component video switch available as a last resort, but I would really prefer everything being plugged into my TV directly.

Thanks

I would use either, or component or DVI, I wouldn't use both because most likely its causing interference with your tv and the sa8300hd. As well as your cable provider.

I figured out the lines appearing the DVI are edge stuff like VBI which should normally be off-screen. However, since the input is supposed to be computer compliant, Syntax tells me the overscan cannot be adjusted...apparently, they don't want to chop off someone's "pixel perfect" computer image.

I used the switch box and it seemed to work fine, except I noticed some interference on really bright red colors...diagonal parallel lines moving in the same direction...I don't know what it is (poor provided cables or cable box signal over component?) but it doesn't happen in DVI.

Right now I'm trying to figure out why the box loses the connection to the DVI port when I change to a component input (say to watch a movie, or play a game). Some have suggested it's the cable box. Apparently, Syntax has tested boxes and dvd players that do not lose the connection when inputs are switched, but who knows? I sent TWC an e-mail about this. I hope the SA8300HD line gets a firmware update sometime soon...a lot of people are having handshaking issues from what I've read, and they should consider that worth fixing.

Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know what happens when I get some responses.
