Hi all... long time reader, first time poster...

I've got a Toshiba 52HMX94 DLP television, and am attempting to hook it up to my Motorola cable box via DVI to HDMI Monster Cable. My cable service is through Charter, which has been slightly less than helpful with any of my questions (the installer made a point of saying that he's never installed a DVI connection, and knew nothing about it). Unfortunately, I'm not sure of the cable box model number (and neither is Charter) and, after reading more about cables on this site, will probably be taking the Monster Cable back... but that's sometime later. Anyway...

Upon hooking everything up, I get a green screen on the tv. Sometimes full green, sometimes green lines, sometimes nothing at all. I haven't been able to get a picture at all, in any res., on any channel. Charter tells me that the box was tested prior to install, and that the problem must be with my tv or the cables.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm near my wits end with this project and am looking for any possible ideas to fix this. I'm sorry for the vagueness and lack of technical information for the components. If there's any other information that would help please let me know. In the meantime, I'm still trying to find out what model cable box I've got...

The Toshiba DVI issue has been well documented on this and other sites. For some reason, several Toshiba (and other TVs) have issues with the DVI connection.

Make sure you turn on the TV first, then the STB. Also make sure the connector is of appropriate quality - ie, use a cable without an adaptor.

Make sure the connector is well connected (try unplugging, replugging a couple of times. If the handshake doesn't occur, you may wish to use component video connections.

I would have thought that the DLP TV doesn't have issues though...

Thank you very much for the reply. Although I'd checked this forum, I hadn't thought of looking specifically in the Toshiba forum for my problem. I'll check for more there...

I have a straight DVI to HDMI cable (no adapter) and have tried every order of powering on that i can think of. I'll keep trying to replug, etc.

Thanks again.

problem solved...

I called the place that I bought it from, and told them that the HDMI wasn't working (this after 3 different cable boxes and 2 different cables). The repairman had the necessary firmware update for the tv, and once that was done everything's working great. He said the update fixes cablecard issues, but he didn't know it would help this as well.

Thanks again for the help here. Hope this helps anyone else having similar problems...

How do you update firmware on the TV?
I have the same problem on Toshiba 52HM85 DLP

My first post...

I just called Toshiba's tech support and they're calling me back in a few days with how to get an upgrade for my 52HM85 (I had the green screen problem through HDMI, so I'm hoping this will solve it!).
