View Full Version : HR10-250 question

With all the great deals happening with the HR10-250, I am tempted to jump on the bandwagon and try to wheel and deal for one. I've got two questions... (and forgive me if they have been answered elsewhere)

1) I have read that this model will allow you to record HD from your OTA antenna. Does that also mean that it is automatically recording this OTA signal for thirty minutes as you watch- thus allowing pause, and rewind options ?

2) Some folks are saying that when they get these HR10-250 units that Directv is promising them free upgrades or whatever when the MPEG4 happens. Has anyone heard what the price will be on the new MPEG4 receivers for people who decide to hold off buying now? Any rumored prices?

After reading more threads on the Directv HD DVR (w/Tivo), I am assuming "yes" to both my above questions.

Anybody disagree?

1) Yes, up to 30 mins buffer after tuning to any station.
2) Not yet on the price.

Does the OTA tuner on the HR10-250 do a good job? Has anyone compared it to other tuners that are available on the market (VOOM receivers, Accurian, etc...)?

I had problems with the OTA tuner compared to a DirecTv tuner but Direct replace the first HR10-250. This unit does a great job of OTA :)

MY HR10-250 is about a year old, no issues with the OTA tuners or recording OTA HD.

I've had mine for just about a month and no problem. Even my wife enjoys using it, now that's saying something.

My OTA is markedly improved with the HR10-250, when compared to the internal ATSC tuner in my Sony KDF50WE655. I had frequent lock loss on the weak Dallas ABC signal, but have not had any problems in the two weeks that I have been using the 250.

Excuse this may be a dumb question. I have the HR10-250 also. When i got it i inquired about the ota antenna. I was told by a salesman that i will get the my local ota channels through the dish. I have 10 hd channels with the package. I do get letterman and the tonight show in hd. I live outside NYC. Is this correct or would i receive more channels with another antenna?
Thanks

You get the big 4 out of NY via Directv, there are probably other local channels broadcasting OTA though. Check antennaweb.org for a list of stations broadcasting in your area. Check the Show Digital Stations Only option to see which ones you could possibly get with the HR10-250.
