I have a Syntax Olevia LT30HVS LCD TV that I've been using for a little over a month now. It has given me zero problems and it has a fantastic picture for the money I paid.

I just purchased a LG DVB418 DVD Player. It has an HDMI output it uses for upconversion. My Olevia TV only has a DVI connection so I purchased a Monster HDMI to DVI cable. Now, when I plug everything in the picture comes up fine. However, there is a black bar that runs down the right side of the screen that shows up in the menus and when playing DVD movies. It seems that the TV is not recognizing the DVD Player. It shows a picture, but the picture doesn't fill the screen all the way. Usually, with other DVD players I've used on this TV, the component signal is picked up immeadiately and the picture fills the whole 16:9 screen with no stretching. The LG image is clearly stretched and the quality seems poor. When I plug the LG up to the TV using the component cables, everything seems to work fine.

Could it be a bad cable or could it have something to do with the HDCP not being recognized since I'm using a HDMI to DVI converter cable. Thanks for any help!

I purchased an Olevia 27" HD capable LCD last weekend as a second TV for my child. I set it up and it worked fine, except for the DVI input. I hooked up my Samsung ATSC receiver (works great with my Samsung TV) to the DVI port (DVI to DVI) and it produced a beautiful picture. However, on non-HD programs, there was a 1/4 inch of "noise" across the top of the picture. On HD pictures, there was a 1/2 inch black band across the top.

I attempted to contact Syntax through the telephone and through e-mail, sending a detialed account of my problem. No one would answer the telephone at their offices in California. I decided to return the TV as I am leery of support from their company.

I received an e-mail last night from the company (one week after sending the e-mail) saying that the noise and black band are normal and cannot be adjusted! I think that says it all about Olevia.

It's a simple overscan adjustment. The bar/noise at the top of the screen is is VBI (vertical blanking interval) which contains Closed Captioning,SAP and other info (which is not meant to be seen, obviously).

It can be adjusted by a tech via the service menus (normally).
