View Full Version : HDMI video not working

Hopefully someone can answer this question!

I purchased the 50" A10 last week and hooked everything up. I'm running the cable through my SA 8300HD cable box. I'm running audio through my stereo receiver (I'm not concerned about using HDMI for audio).

I've gone through everything that I can think of, but I can't seem to get the video to work. It works fine using component cables, but just not with the HDMI.

Is there a setting on the TV or cable box that I'm missing?

I did make sure that TV was set to input 6 for the HDMI connector. I downloaded the instruction book for the cable box, and followed those instructions. It indicated that the box should normally be set up for pass-through, but when an HDMI cable is used there will be a separate option for that. When I went into the menu, the HDMI option was not there.

Would that indicate a possible faulty cable?

Make sure the component video cable is NOT connected to the STB as this can confuse the STB. Turn the TV on first. Try running the setup wizard again (if there is one). I assume you've seen the HDTV FAQ "Tips for SA STBs". Make sure the HDMI cable is properly seated - remove, replug and "wiggle" it a bit. (See also the HDTV FAQ "Things to check first".

I called the cable company and they said that they are sending a "diagnostics" over to the box, and that it should activate the HDMI port. Otherwise, they said to bring it in and they will give me a new box.

Does this sound right?

Sounds like a reasonable action plan to me. :)

Whatever the cable company did, it worked! Came home from work and the HDMI port worked!

Although to be honest, I didn't really notice a difference between component and HDMI. =)

I have the Panasonic 44" rear proj LCD. I wasn't aware that I had to switch to TV to the HDMI input on the video input menu. The HDMI cable replaces the analog coaxial cable, right? So I can take out the coaxial, plug in the HDMI from box to TV and switch to correct input, and it should work. I did all except switching the input last night....all I got was snow on the screen. Until I plugged my coaxial cable back in the box and tv. I wanna see HD! Have yet to see it thus far on my new TV!

Have you tried the component video connection?

Have you tried the analogue audio (Red/white) connections?

Check the audio settings in the settings menu of the STB. Check out the HDTV FAQ "Tips for SA STBs"

See the HDTV FAQ "Things to check first".

I have the same exact setup. It worked fine for a month. Now the box comes up with a message that the TV does not support HDCP and that I should use component cables (which work fine.) I suspect a new firmware push, but TW tech support claims that the HDMI port is NOT supported and NEVER worked. Bozos! :shootout:
