i put in my location on the antennaweb.org site and then selected the "digital stations only" option. i'm particularly interested in two stations which are not carried by my cable company. here's a condensed version of what it shows:

Antenna Channel Network Comp. Orient. Miles Frequency
yellow-uhf 39.1 NBC 70° 8.5 39
violet-uhf 36.1 ABC 70° 8.5 40

why does it show up as yellow and violet? the numbers appear to be very much alike....both are 8.5 miles away...one has a frequency of 39 and the other 40...thus, the violet requires an outdoor, larger antenna (if i'm reading this correctly) and the yellow requires just a small indoor antenna...

why the difference? any info on this would be appreciated...

Lower tranmission power?
Lower height on the tower (therefore less ERP)?

Just a few quick thoughts...

so then in order to get both channels, i'd have to get an antenna that would work with violet, correct?

Start small and work your way up. All you can do is try.

The Zenith Silver Sensor for indoor (Sears).
The Radio Shack 15-2160 for outdoor/attic.

i thought violet meant an outdoor or attic antena and thus an indoor (small) antenna would not work....i'd love it for a small indoor to work....

ha! ha! very funny... :rofl2:

i'll give the zenith one a shot...a bit off topic but is there anything specific that would make one antenna better than another? i tried a Jensen earlier and couldn't get anything to come through....maybe i had it set up wrong...

in my previous post i asked what, if anything, makes one antenna better than another...since i still don't have an answer, let me ask you this....would this terk antenna work? terk antenna (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6327496&type=product&productCategoryId=cat08084&id=1081899793854)

now let me show you how stupid i am when it comes to antennas....my setup is in the middle of the house...the direction i have to face the antenna would require it to "go through" 3 or 4 walls....is that ok? i guess what i am wondering, once i purchase an antenna is there anything needed to do other than make sure it is facing the correct direction?
