I'm about to purchase a Sony Wega 32' LCD TV, model KLVS32A10 (comments on this model are welcome). But I need to get a High Def hookup.

My understanding is that I can rent a HDTV Box from Comcast and also purchase a DVD Player, but I think there may be better options for me.

I think that the ideal solution would be to get a piece of equipment that would work as a HDTV Tuner Box and a DVD Player (or recorder). Is there such a thing, and would it allow me to avoid renting a box from Comcast and adding a DVD Player?

Thanks!

If you want the premium HD channels available from Comcast, you need to rent their box or a cable card if your TV is cable card compatible, no way around that. If your interested in just getting the unencrypted QAM channels (usually just the local digital channels) a QAM capable tuner would work fine for you.

Also look into the Toshiba 32" 32HL95 as well, to me it loooked the best out of all the LCD's i've seen at best buy.

No matter what your digital service provider, I would go with a pc for the dvd player. This also gives you a upconverting dvd player, tivo-for-free, a surfing machine, a analog and/or hdtv tuner, and a gaming machine. A pc built to good specs will feed your new sony to max resolutions all the time, and feed a couple of other displays in the home.
