View Full Version : Splitting Analog Cable

I do have my cable split before the STB, trying to get the very best PQ from the analog channels. But that precludes me from being able to use the 6412 to record the analog material - "unless" I want to record what I'm getting from the STB over my component cables.

Problem is, I would be recording very poor PQ. So I just leave it split out and try to watch the analog channels by the cable broadcast schedule.

I have heard that I might get acceptable PQ on my analog channels and still be able to record them if I used composite or s-video instead of component.

I hope I've communicated this well enough - what do y'all recommend?

The analogue tuner in the 6412 is not very good and the encoder isn't any better. What you're currently doing is fine. The composite connection is the best for analogue channels if using the STB.

There is a new 6412 (Phase III) that is becoming available with a better analogue tuner. Ask your service privider when they will be available and trade your 6412 for the newer model if possible.

Be aware that most service providers will have no clue what you're talking about. The new 6412 Phase III has HDMI instead of DVI. This unit has just become available in some areas.
