On SD programs the the audio is fine using the internal spkrs. but when I switch to HD I have no sound. I can get the sound on my stereo amp. when on a HD channel, but it sounds like something is interferring with it. I'm hooked up to a Sony HR250 receiver.

We need more information. Are you using a STB (set top box) to send the HD signals to the TV? What is the make/model of that STB? I don't believe your TV has an internal ATSC tuner...

I'm assuming you have the red/white cables connected from that STB to the TV? Are you sending the video signal via component video cables?

How are you connected to the A/V receiver? - Digital audio cable or analogue (red/white)

If you are using component cables to receive your signal, try unplugging the red or green plug while still having your audio plugs in. Do you get sound from your TV speaker after this and does it go away after you reconnect them properply? Just wondering because I'm experiencing somewhat the same problem.

I'm hooked up with a HDMI cable from the the Sony HD10-250. I removed the amp completely. No sound on HD channels. Isn't the HDMI cable supposed to supply both the audio and video?

I'm using Directv. I have a good HD picture, but just no sound.

There's usually a user "audio" setting that probably needs to be set to DD instead of PCM or something like that. I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that piece of equipment and I couldn't find much by searching the web.

Actually the other way around, PCM instead of DD, seen a lot of TV's that can't handle DD over the HDMI chipset, my guess is they figure the TV has only two speakers, why put in a more expensive chipset that can handle more then two channels.

Thanks for the correction Matt. Another way would be to simply connect the analogue (red/white) audio cables from the STB to the TV...

I was confused (twice) by the first post because he mentioned "receiver" which I assumed was an A/V Receiver...
