Just want to throw in my two cents here. While I love DiscHD probably the best out of all the HD channels, I have to say that their Friday night programming is lame.

I'm a stay at home kind of guy (aren't most of those with HD??) and to have to be subjected to Opera House (no matter how good the picture is) on a Friday night is just plain wrong.

I want to see some African plains, Jungle Safarri, Sharks, Tropical Fish, Caribbean islands....

Heck, even watching paint dry or grass grow would almost be preferable.

"The nice thing about HD is that even after 6 beers, the picture is still clear".

I really wish money grew on trees. I'd be investing in National Geographic HD or even Animal Planet...

Of course, you realize there are some of us who are thrilled to death that we can see an opera or a concert once a week. To me it was a tremendous bonus that I can see some shows like that on a regular basis on an HD channel that don't even exist in the SD world. Personally, I would never watch a show about motorcycles or garages, but I don't begrudge those who are interested in them their weekly time slot on that channel. Just DVR some shows you like that are on at an inconvenient hour (for you) and watch them in that time slot instead. However, I hasten to add that I love the jungle, animal, travel shows as much as you do.

I agree with the arguement. I myself am a stay at home guy and would rather be watching some lions tear into a piece of gazelle ass than watch an opera. Opera is more of a DVR concept because you would record it for your wife. HD is more of a guys thing. Yes i know women are into it but majority is guys.

I do agree that some of my favorite HD/Surround sound programming is a concert. But i'd love to have a rock show or something every Friday. Almost a concert at home. I usually have 3 or 4 friends over drinking beers doing the typical 22 year old crap and a concert in HD would beat putting on a CD anytime. But opera, tho im sure plenty of people enjoy it, is not the kinda friday nite thing.

That and i do agree with the beer comment. You can see more than one object but it is still clear as day, simply amazing

Oh imagine a Pink Floyd concert??? Lighting effects and all.

And no, the "Australian Pink Floyd" thing they ran on PBS is not nearly the same.
