I am desperately needing to buy a new set, and a 52" DLPs fit my price point. However, all the latest 52" DLP sets produced by Toshiba, LG and Samsung are at the same/very similar price right now/
Which one should I go for? I am looking for the "BEST picture quality" and don't care about design/speakers/size etc..
Any thoughts?

Im not one to offer the most sound advice, but I talked to a good friend that was supervisor in home theater at BB for about 10 years.
He recommended Samsung off the bat.

I'm seeking the best Ice Cream.
All of the popular brands are similar in price and amount.
I don't care about the flavor or the packaging.

For what it is worth, there is a tv repair place by my house that exclusively sells LG products. They say LG is the best out there. I also understand they have a vested interest in that recommendation.
I purchased an LG 44" LCD from that store and like it tremendously. When I bought my LCD, the store had the LG 52" DLP on display. I could not tell a difference between the LCD and DLP. Both looked very good. The reason I went with the LCD is the size -- 44" was just right.

After researching various sites and reviews, it seems like the final choice comes down to Samsung or Toshiba.
I am looking for a 52" set, the price for both manufacturer are the same for their latest model, I am wondering what your thoughts are on going one or the other? I haven't found a local shop that displays them side by side so I am still torn between the two.

I like the new Toshiba's, my buddy got the 52hmx85 I think anyway, and it looks great, well my buddy has a big dish like myself so I am not sure how it will look on other sources.

But your point?! :)
All DLP chips (as far as I know) are manufactured by Texas Instruments. Therefore it's ice cream.
LG, Toshiba and Samsung all use the same technology just in different packages and flavors.
They all taste good... shop around and taste test. See what's good to you.

I like the design of Toshiba better, but I am worried about getting inferior quality. It seems like Samsung DLP 52" has "better" or "higher" quality?

If you're looking at 'picture quality', only you can judge what suits your preferences.
If you're looking at features and failure rates... that's a different story.
Personally I'd go with Toshiba over Samsung sight unseen.

Wow there are two people on this thread recommending Toshiba already.
It seems weird, almost all the online reviews recommend Samsung over Toshiba but "real" people seem to recommend Toshiba over Samsung.
Back to deciding on which ice-cream to buy, hopefully before they melt! :drool11:

I am desperately wanting to buy a DLP set soon, but can't decide between the latest Toshiba or Samsung.
Many online reviews say that Samsung is better, but how? Is this true?
Any thoughts from the Toshiba camp? I am looking for best image quality/

What about mitsubishi?
I heard they make excellent DLP sets.
As a matter of fact i'm about to start a thread too on DLP, since LCD just did'nt have the black level yet to me.
I like DLP because since i'm a gamer too, they have no-burn-in and are light and compact, i can easily put one in my bedroom in the corner.and i think either a 42" or 46" would be the perfect size.
But like you guys i'm in the same boat as everyone else and still learning about DLP.
I've checked out the www.DLP.com site by Texas Instruments and it was very informative.Check it out!

Just purchased the Toshiba 46HMX85. Great looking set as far as cosmetics. I really like the black housing. Awesome picture. The only complaint I have is rainbow effect. I am one of those 10% that can see it. It's very seldom and usually only on DVD. Doesn't seem to show up when watching satellite.

I almsot bought the 52HMX85/95 720p DLP today, but all the local retailers do not have it in stock, so fate is probably dictating that I should wait for the 1080p model to come out LOL :D
