Well im going for one that is below 1 grand. So that means im going for a crt(beause i dont know any good hdtv lcds that are at least 30 inches...) (i have googled what i can and i just want to know what you people think)
One thing first
1) Crts can have 100% true Hdtv, right? Someone said it isnt because ctrs are analog and not digital...
Ive been looking at this one a lot
LG 30" CRT HDTV (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7015829&type=product&id=1099393182544)
Specs sound good and looks very very nice.
It seems to support 1080i but does can i still use 720p to full potentia?l, i heard in some ways 720p can looks nicer since 1080 is interlaced...
And it has an Hdmi input, this is better then dvi input, corrent?(differences?)
I also like this one a lot.
Samsung 30" CRT HDTV (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7045397&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat31800050030&id=1099396990967)
anyone have any reccomendations also?(under a grand)
what you guys/grls thing between the two? and please reccomendations
Just as an FYI, CRT-based HDTVs are no less "HD" than other TVs due to their analogue nature.
All consumer CRT-based HDTVs display in 1080i, even if they "accept" 720P signals, those signals are converted to the native format.
HDMI is newer than DVI. See the HDTV FAQ on "DVI/HDMI Information". Check out the other FAQs while there.

So can i just format the display to 720p only and not use 1080i? and switch between the two that are being displayed freely?
You misunderstand. Not that it makes much difference, but consumer CRT-based HDTVs have only one native HD format and that format is 1080i. If the TV "accepts" 720P signals, they are converted to 1080i. You cannot "switch" between the two because there's nothing to switch.
All consumer TVs are like this in that they have one native format for displaying HD signals, althouth in fixed pixel displays like DLP, LCD, etc, that format can be 720P, 768P, 788P, etc. Please read the FAQs.

Hi antpod, i'm a japanese-american,nice to hear from a fellow asian. I'd suggest you look into sony since they are the best in the CRT market.
CRT's have a ntive resolution of 1080i, they will aslso accept 720p also and convert it to 1080i.Look into the sony 30hs420 or 30xs955.
I give three tips on color direct view CRTs : the three most important things
to look for are that its a sony, that its a sony, last but not least, that its a sony.
Sony totally dominates in performance in direct view CRTs and always has since
the first trinitrons 35 years ago...Not so on other technologies like LCD, RPTVs,
etc etc, but when it comes to direct view color CRTS they are not only the best, they are in a class by themselves....
Secondly dont even think about going any smaller than 30 inches, you will regret it, and forget 4x3 screens at all sizes at this point...I say that because
sony still makes some with HD capability but I suggest you avoid them
even the big ones...

Indeed. Those Sony widescreen HD CRT's are beautiful. I'm about to pick one up myself in the near future. Can't get it for a grand, but it's worth nearly twice as much to me anyhow.

I had a Zenith 32" (c32v37) and it was a gorgeous set. The key thing is that if you have a Sony next to any other CRT, the sony looks a little bit better. But IMHO, it's not needed. If you can afford the Sony, then great. But I say use that extra couple hundred bucks to get a good sound system. As a first time with HD, everything is going to be better. I'm not saying go with Advent, but Samsung, Zenith, etc are great TVs.
Also, for some reason I'm in the minority here, but I say to check out a 32" TV. Sure, it's 4:3, but you're still going to want to watch SD channels. A 32" screen has an approximately 29" 16:9 picture. But a 30" screen has about 27" of 4:3. Now, I don't see much of a difference between 29" and 30" widescreen pictures. But you have to be pretty far away not to notice the difference between a 27" and 32" 4:3. Just something to think about.

Panasonic is a good brand too, a little less expensive than Sony.

You should take a look at the Sony KDL-32XBR950 LCD, it has a great picture.
Also the Sanyo HT32744 is a nice set.
