Hey does anybody know if the Xbox HD Advanced video adapter has 2 audio outs on it or is it only fiber optical out....

I have it and it only has fiber optic out. I was a little disapointed. But I guess since it doesn't cost that much you can't get everything out of it you want. :) Oh I guess I should say it has a audio left and right for normal stereo and then fiber optic for the 5.1.

How is the video output? Does your hookup allow for 720p or 1080i? My HDTV unfortunately has one HD component output that only supports 480i. Why do companies do this? They should know people would want to hook up components, ie Xbox or progessive scan DVD, that would allow 720 or 1080. What is your opinion on this? I would like to play Shenmue 2 in 1080i.

I wish they would have thought about it more also. My tv only excepts 480p or 1080i so any game thats in 720p I can't play unless I down convert it to 480p. It sucks. I wish they would do more games in 1080i. Dragon's Lair was awsome but you can only play it so much. :)

well for audio the hd pack give you two options - analog and digital.

for analog it's the old faithful red and white coax

and for digital it's the optical toslink

oops sorry about that I forget about that one. I am to use to thinking everyone is talking about 5.1. I am always forgetting about the red and white. Thanks again. :)

does 480p look that bad? would it still look better than my 32inch JVC?

Most of the games I have played are in 480p and I think they look great. I can tell a big difference if you are on a projection tv or not. If you have a tub set you may not be able to tell a difference but on a rear projection tv I can tell. I have played my Playstion 2 on my tv just using the S-video adapter they have and have played a couple of their real good graphic games and then put my xbox on using the component cables to get the xbox games in 480p and just playing an everyday game that was not really intended for graphics the xbox looked a lot better just because of the 480p. I was shocked their was that much of a difference. But like I said that is on a RP TV on a tub set you may not notice to much. Thats my opinion anyway someone else may think differently.

so do all games in xbox play atleast 480p? I'm assuming when you say 480P, there will be no black borders on each side?

Also, Do I have to get the special HD adapter before doing this?

Thanks

So far all the games I have seen have at least been 480p. You would have to have the HD adapter to get it to do 480p. It has to use the component cables. Sorry if this is bad news for you. I have a brother in law that said he wanted to get the hd pack to make his look better but I told him he has to have a tv that excepts component cables his doesn't. He was bumbed out to.

Almost 95% of xbox games are 480p or higher but there are some out there that are only 480i. Hopefully these game developers will start making more and more games in 1080i.

ok last question, promise...:)

I was reading on another forum that when running these games in 480P mode they are stretched somewhat? Is this true?

Not that I have noticed. Maybe someone else has ran across this that can answer your question. Don't worry about asking questions though. You can ask as many as you want.:)

Some games are stretched some arent it just depends on how they encoded the game for EX. I have my XBOX set to widescreen and when I put in NFL 2K3 it automactically detects a widescreen TV and the game reshapes the pic and let me tell ya it looks awesome..... Even my wife who doesnt even like football games said it looks creepy because they look almost real.

so the games that are 480p would be for 16:9 format right? I'm guessing that the 480i games are the ones looking stretched?

no
480p has nothing to do with 4:3 or 16:9 when it comes to XBOX. The games that support 16:9 do just that, regardless of 480p support, same goes for the games that don't support 16:9. I've only come across 2 games that don't support 480p, Agent Under Fire and Hitman 2. I wish Hitman 2 did, looks kinda fuzzy.
