Did a forum search and could not find the answer to this question:
When looking for a LCD HDTV what is the minimum acceptable response time in ms?

Not necessarily for gaming, just for watching DVD/TV.
Just for my edification; is 8-12ms acceptable for gaming as well?

Well, just to be more clear. It is difficult to answer that question because different manufacturers measure response times differently.
A response time is generally how fast it takes a pixel to change. Now, some manufacturers count a "change" if a pixel goes from black to white (or dark to light), while others use a grey-grey "change".
I don't remember which manufacturers use which methodology.
Some LCDs have response time of 8ms while other have 12-20ms. Physiologically speaking, once you get below 16ms, your eyes/brain can't tell a difference. The gamers here might deny that though ...
Just remember, one manufacturer's 16ms may not be the same as another's 16ms...
Good luck.

You honestly really want a 16ms LCD or below even for TV/DVD as beyond that it's gonna blur pretty good being LCD's major weakness is motion. This is a major thing to think about. If you plan to play games on it and like to play them pretty often, a LCD TV just might not be right for you. If it's just basically going to be used for TV and DVD's, then you'll probably be happy with it for the most part.
