Does anyone happen to know the pros and cons of 1024 X 768 resolution? I know many 42" Plasmas have this resolution but I dont know much about it. For example the pixels are a 4:3 ratio but the screens on the plasmas are 16:9 so are these displays truly widescreen or is the image being stretched? Will they produce clear hi def picture?

I now own one of these displays and when I hooked up my xbox to it via compoent cables Halo 2 (a 480p game) look awefull all the edges of textures are very very jagged (looks much like a chainsaw). I was not sure if this was caused by the 1024 x 768 resolution or maybe by poor up-conversion (taking a wild stab at it). I'm considering returning this TV, would get a better picture from a higher resolution TV maybe a 40" LCD? Do you see any future drawbacks a resolution like this would have?

If anyone knows anything about the pros and cons (if any) of this resolution I would love to hear them. Thanks for your time.

I believe that most (all?) 42" plasmas have this pixel count. These plasmas typically produce an excellent picture, especially when fed an HD signal.

A lot depends on the manufacturer too - there are 42" (HD) plasmas from say $3k (less?) to $5k?, so obviously there are going to be differences.

Remember that pixels don't have to be square and that incoming signals for most HDTVs are "scaled" to be appropriately displayed. Widescreen programming will be appropriately displayed.

I cannot comment on how it would handle games (at 480P), however, I have not heard of many complaints with plasmas in general.

How does it look with HD signals? If you're not going to use it for HD, perhaps you should consider an ED plasma? They handle 480i/p really well.
