I got into the service mode (mostly to disable VSM/SVM), and I figured "while I'm here, I might as well tweak the geometry and get rid of the overscan..."
Well, that was a mistake. :) I got it to the point where it looked just about perfect... switched out of service mode, went to my custom video settings, and the picture was slightly bent. Went back into service and compensated for the distortion, and when I went back out of service mode, everything seemed fine... until the picture displayed a scene with a lot of bright/white imagery, and the picture got *really* distorted. :(
It seems to me that the geometry, right now, is heavily dependent on the brightness or contrast of the picture. It's kind of annoying to have perfect geometry in one scene, and then have the picture "warp" during the next scene. :( Basically, instead of displaying a clean rectangle, it will show a retangle with it's left side curving inward and then curving outward and down. Very distracting. :(
I've been looking around for a place that sells the service manual, because I'm hoping there will be defaults listed there. Does anyone know any ISF techs working in and around Massachusetts? And would having an ISF tech come out be covered under warranty (I ask only because I read someone's review of an older Samsung where they mentioned that this was the case).
Alternately, I haven't found the key to press to "save" modifications done in the service mode... Basically, I have to press power to turn off the TV and then turn it back on to get out of service mode. Does anyone know any kind of code to reset the values? I've heard that some TVs can be reset by unplugging the unit.
Any help would be appreciated!!
