After spending a month of shopping, researching, comparing prices, I was completely disappointed with the far too many "compromises" of the current 1080p sets coming out.

Initially I thought I'd settled for a Toshiba 1080p 56MX195, but Toshiba Canada WON'T offer this model in Canada, instead they are offering a watered-down version 56HM195, so ditch that!

In near despair, a couple of days ago I think I have finally found a set that I will ABSOLUTELY be buying which is the HP MD5880N!!! It has these advantages:

1. Accepts native/true 1080p in 24/30/60!!
2. Does excellent conversion with SD signals too!
3. Great black levels!
4. Quality comparable to the USD$15000 Sony Qualia!
5. Rated as the "2nd" best of ALL DLPs (again second to the USD$15000 Qualia)
6. Has all the digital ports.
7. Possibly no "stripped-down" version for Canadian market.

I just hope this WILL BE SOLD in Canada soon!!!!

Give us a review once you get it;)

So, it was rated as "2nd best DLP" next to the Qualia, which isn't a DLP?

Do you want to trust that review?

If it's as good as the Epson :nono2: , good luck. At CEDIA, I didn't see a whole lot to differentiate the HP with, say, a Samsung.

Why don't you look at Mits, which without argument has the best DLP on the planet within mass-affordable ranges?

I think that review actually says the HP is the 2nd best "RPTV" compared to Qualia, it didn't say Qualia is DLP.

Even IF the new HP is the same or equal quality to Samsung/Mits, I would still get the HP for its front cabling design, and most importantly 1080p native via HDMI!!! :overclap:

Always nice to see new products on the scene. Nice looking set--wonder how it's going to fare in the marketplace.

Just curious, what good is 1080p native going to do you unless you plan to attach a PS3 to it? It'll be awhile before devices that can generate that resolution will be mainstream. That's not something worth paying extra to be an early adopter for...

I agree, what's the point when the material is'nt likely to become mainstream for a very,long..long time?

This is an interesting read on the wobulating 1080P DLP sets... Another reason I wouldn't rush out to get one, sounds like it's a crutch to get TI by until they get the true 1080P resolution chips out...

I am not waiting for 1080p devices to be used with the HP TV, because it accepts 1920x1080 PC resolution, that's more important for me.

Besides the MSRP for HP 58" is lower than the Sony smaller sized 50" Qualia SXRD, so the retail price must be even lower! It seems like the HP TV will not command a premium which is great! :hyper:

I really dont like this wobulating after one hell of a long read with alot of good points, I was unaware of it today when I placed an order for my Toshiba TV... Maybe I will go back to the SXRD and just be happy with my initial choice.
