I have a Sony KF42WE610 42 inch RPLCD and am returning it since the light engine is in need of being replaced for a 3rd time due to green blotches.
Also a lamp problem in the first 8 months.
I am considering replacing it with either the current model Sony KDF-E42A10 or the 2005 model Panasonic PT-44LCX65.
I know the past sony sets had the green blotch and lamp problems but has this been corrected and I also read that the Panasonic had a lamp problem (short life) on earlier sets and was wondering if this issue was addressed by Panasonic in this new model.
Otherwise, can I expect picture quality to be similar on these 2 units. The picture on the sony I am returning had an incredible picture when it worked properly.
thanks

It seems the new sony A-10's have gotten pretty popular, i hav'nt heard much negative about it.Since you liked the sony PQ of the last tv before it crapped out on you why not try the new A-10 no?

Just to chime in for Panny, they seem to have had lamp issue with the LC13. Those issues seem to have been resolved with the LC14 model. I've heard good things about the LCX65 series and nothing so far about lamp issues. Might come down to personal preference, styling and connectivity. Good luck.

The Sony has been insanely popular in the Circuit City store I'm at. The Panasonic projections not as much. Looking at them constantly I find them to look about the same, but the Sony on vivid mode I think ultimatley looks nicer. However the Panasonic is a 44 inch for the same price as the Sony 42. Personally I think if I was making the choice I would go for the Sony but its really a win win either way since they have an awful lot in common.

I am trying to choose between the PT-52LCX 15B and the Sony KDF E50 A10 50". The Panasonic is 2100.00 with the stand and the Sony is 2500.00 without stand.
Does anyone know if the Panasonic has the latest "3 LCD" technology that Sony boasts about?

The prior gen used 3LCD panels, it is the same with this model.
You can get operating instructions here.

That Panasonic looks really great compared to the sony, to me it looked like a better value since they both pretty much looked the same.

Feature wise, the Panasonic PT-44LCX65 has the Sony KDFe42A10 beat not only with the additional 2 inches in size but it also has an SD memory card reader as well as pictire in picture which the Sony lacks in the A10 models.
I'm thinking of doing the 30 day trial run at CC with the Panny but the bulb issue has me worried. The extra features are nice but won't matter if the bulb blows out frequently. If not satisfied I can bring it back for the A10.

Sony is better! Sounds like you got a bad set or something!

Just remember that today, most reputable companie position RPLCDs as their buster models, and DLP as step-up. :rofl2: Reason? No black generated by LCD. Incorrect contrast ratio = incorrect color palette.
Look at a good DLP from a good company like Mits. :wow:

So is this why Sony is focusing so much on DLP? Oh wait :D
