I just purchased a Sony KDF-E42A10 and I the digital audio output is not working properly. I am inputing throught the HDMI input, so the signal is digital. I have tried using a DVD player and the HD Cable Box. The cable works because if I connect the DVD or Cable directly to the reciever Digital input I get sound. If I turn the TV speakers on I can get sound, so the HDMI is getting the sound input from the source.
Has anyone else experienced this problem. I was on the phone with Sony for 2 hours with no resolution. I am waiting for a call back from them in the next 48 hours. I was hoping someone on here could help. Thanks.

Are you getting any sound from digital output to rcvr? It may not carry over as 5.1 from the set to rcvr unless your using OTA tuner inside your set. Usually your best bet is going straight from DVD & Cable STB directly to RCVR anyhow and simply using tv speakers when you dont want surround.

Many TVs do not properly "passthrough" the signals from outside sources. You'll need to connect the outside source directly to the A/V Receiver.

The TV's audio output is really intended only for the TV tuner, not to "pass" input signals.

That is what I am getting elsewhere too. I assumed I would be able to use the output as a single digital output to the reciever for all of the digital inputs. Thanks for the help guys.
