View Full Version : Up Converting
Is this a standard feature on the Hitachi RPTV's. I am looking at purchaseing the 65swx and was curious if this was a standard feature on this Tv and how well people like it.
Thanks for the info Tom.
I believe all HD RPTVs perform some form of upconversion. The Hitachis do an excellent job of it.
They call theirs Virtual HD and if you get a very clean 480i signal, the upconverted product looks like... well, virtually HD...

I've had a 57SWX for a couple weeks, just got Comcast HD box last week. The Hi Def signals look great, but occasionally even the non-digital channels look very good. It not only varies from channel to channel, but seems to vary from show to show on the same channel. Fox, which is ch 2 in Detroit area, looked very good Sunday night (Malcolm, Andy Richter) - but obviously not Hi Def.
The non-HDTV digital channels can look very good, and then some look blotchy. The NBC digital looks great here, even most of the commercials look close to hi-def picture quality. The Tonight Show is the best picture I've seen yet (I dont have HBO-HD or Showtime HD). After seeing the detail that the SWX can display with that show, I realize that anything less impressive must be due to the signal - not the television itself.
I'm also very impressed at the sound quality of the SWX's speakers. Due to the showrooms usually being noisy, I never really had a chance to evaluate the sound quality of the projection TVs. It's not Dolby Digital quality, but it is very good, and I don't turn on my surround system half as much as I used to.
Thanks for the info guys. Also thanks for the info on the speakers that is something that i haven't thought about since i am so use to turning on my surround sound when ever I watch tv...
