Please forgive me if this is the subject of another thread. I searched, but found no hits.

I have a Cox Communications (Middle Ga) HD DVR with lots of great shows on it that I would love to have on DVD. Some shows are HD but most aren't. Is there anyway that I can record from my DVR? Do I need to invest in a DVD recorder or can I hook it up to my laptop via a video capture device. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can record the programmes (including the HD ones), but only in SD quality. The easiest is via an S-video connection to a DVD recorder or a computer. I'm not sure there are video capture cards for laptops.

I believe Cox use SA DVRs, so there is no way to record true HD since firewire is not active on SA DVRs yet. See the HDTV FAQ on Recording HD.
