Can anyone give me general settings for this tv. Brightness, contrast, etc. I am not sure if it is somewhere in this forum, but if it is, I apologize.
Thanks in advance.

Each TV and environment is unique and one person's settings may not apply to your TV. Check out the HDTV FAQ on "What you need to do to your new HDTV" and get yourself a setup disc for starters.

I can't afford a set up disc. I just wanted some general numbers. I will check the faqs to see what I can find. I kinda figured this would be the response.

Huh? You can't afford DVD's?

But... many have reported that sometimes setup discs can be found at a local library. Check out yours...

Some THX DVDs have a setup portion on them. That's probably better than nothing.

Okay, let me be more specific. I don't have a working dvd player, mine died in a fire. I have an xbox, but not the dvd capability. Right now, my only option is to adjust the settings blindly. I was just hoping for a list from someone with this tv, just to start and see how it looks. I have a hundred questions, but I am not going to start running thru them until I have read as many faqs as possible. I know guys like myself are a pain, I just want the best picture I can get. Thanks.
Honestly, so far in the hole, really can't afford dvd's. How I got the tv? I sold my last possession of worth, my guitar. In essence, I traded my guitar for a tv, but that is all I had the money for.

I know the comfort of knowing that you have the best possible settings is a popular and well desired quest. The problem is that even when using the "setup dvd's" your calibrating the picture based on the source signal of the DVD player and said input. The off air signal or that of the Cable/Satelite provider is from an entirely diffrent breed and steps through multiple phases of video processing before arriving to your set. Even further this stands true for each network/channel you'll ever watch. In short you'll never acheive the best settings. Do what looks best to your eye's in a low light setting on the most common feeds you watch. Hope this comforts.

PS> With Sony on your side your miles ahead in pic quality anyway.
