View Full Version : Mega Changer opinions
Any one using one of the DVD/CD mega changers? I'm most interested in using it to store and play CDs, so I'd be interested in hearing opinions on sound quality and ease of use. In particular, how hard is it to get CD data for display -- do you have to enter it for each disc with a keyboard, or are there network connections for online downloads?

Many mega changers have both capabilities. Obviously, one with broadband capability would make like easier.
Which are you considering?

I have had experiences with Sony and Kenwood models. The more recent Sony adds the jacket cover of the disc if it is encoded and if not, you enter the info by keyboard or just do a list of the disc placements (paper catalogue) if you don't like entry.
The operation of the Sony is smooth, picture is great and the newest model has upconversion capability for the DVDs with HDMI.
I've got a brand new Sony single DVD player with HDMI which has great PQ and no more open HDMI inputs on my receiver (a JVC RX-D702B with two), so my major concern would be playing music, not video, with the changer. I've got an older Kenwood right now that's served me well for years, but the transport is being to get flaky, jamming and freezing if I try to scroll too fast through the discs. Also it was a major pain inputing titles and trying to manage them with the Kenwood folder system.
So, I'm open to any changer that would have solid sound quality and a network connection to let me automate most of the title input. Also, I have to have coaxial output since that's the only digital input left on my receiver. Finding a unit with the coax is fairly easy. I'm having trouble figuring out which ones really do support online support for the title databases. Sony and Pioneer seem to be the only ones offering mega changers now -- the Kenwood web site now only lists single disc players. Any suggestions or information on available models would be appreciated.
