Xbox 360 Native Display Resolution

I have found an article that states the games are rendered in 720p and scaled up or down by the ATI video engine. I don't know if that will sway any HDTV purchases associated with the Xbox 360.

PS3 can and will scale games at 1080p,much more better if you ask me.

I don't know how this post is related to the NATIVE resolution of the Xbox 360 and I find to be WAY off topic. Don't get me wrong, I am interested in finding out what the native resolution of the PS3 is, but I doubt we will know the real spec until we are much closer to the release date and the PS3 forum would be a great place to discuss that topic.

The point I was trying to make is that the Xbox 360 natively displays at 720p and if you don't want to use their scaler you should set the box to output 720p.

I understand but i was a bit dissappointed at it not supporting 1080i natively but i guess it should'nt be an issue if i set the dashboard to 720p and let my tv do the upscaling to 1080i.My only gripe was that it was'nt true 1080i, but i guess it should'nt make much of a difference being upconverted, i probably won't notice it.

From what I understand and I could be wrong but the Xbox 360 can natively send out 720p or 1080i. I've read that bottom line games must be rendered at 720p so whos to say they won't make a game at 1080i.

the 360 will still do 480p ...only if the game allows it though....
I was going to buy a new 42" HDTV AkAI but it only does 480i, 480p and 1080i so I passed on it, since most reading shows a native resolution of 720p, but you can go into the setting and check or uncheck any of the 3 that you want or dont want.

From what I understood, ALL xbox 360 games will output at both 720p & 1080i.

These are the games that I have and those formats are right off teh back of the cases.
