I'm planning on getting an XBOX360 next week on release day and will be playing it on a Toshiba 50H72 unit. This unit only does 480p or 1080i. What will my picture be like since most 360 games are natively 720p?

Comparable to watching FOX, ABC or ESPN-HD on a 1080i HDTV.

Those look good, although I've noticed that part of the picture gets cut off on the left and right sides. Even if I set the TV to letterbox it still happens.
Most TVs have about 4-6% Overscan. Some have more.

That's possibly due to a setup/geometry issue with the TV/STB and not a picture quality issue IMO.
Does this only happen with the networks mentioned above or all HD programming?

I usually only notice it when watching Lost on ABC because when it starts, they'll be showing the cast names, director, etc., and they all run off the side of the screen.
BTW...I'm using the Toshiba DST-3000 for the STB with an OTA antenna.

If it only happens with "Lost" (or is noticible), then IMO, leave it alone. Otherwise... you may just need some minor geometry adjustments performed.
If the set is still under warranty, call and request a tech for service/adjustment.

Psssh....yeah, I tried that. Warranty is through Best Buy. Was promised an annual cleaning and adjustment when I bought it. Called for it a few months ago and the warranty department claimed that I would not be able to get that, that it wasn't covered. So then they sent some idiot who removed the screen, looked at the guns and claimed that it looked fine and didn't need any cleaning. I knew then and there this guy was not capable of making any convergence adjustments, etc.
I've played with the convergence before, I'm very technical (network administrator) so I can figure my way around. I need to check the settings again probably.
