I will likely be buying one of these models within the next month. For those who own one of these, what has been your experience with the bulbs? Is there any difference between the types of bulbs used in an LCD RP vs. other types of RP, or is the technology largely the same?

I just wonder if it's the experience with these TV's justifies getting an extended warranty if it covers bulb replacement. Although I suspect that these models haven't been available long enough to really test the bulb replacement necessity.

See the HDTV FAQ on "Extended Warranties".

I have the 50A10 and it runs like a champ! I have not had any issues with at all I did not buy a extended warrenty. The bulbs are covered by Sony on the 1st year which the bulbs should last a long time. The bulbs run around $200 from Sony site and most extended warrentys cost more than that plus after tax. Anyway you cant go wrong with either set just depends on how big of a set you want and which one would work in your room the best.

Well, my viewing distance is about 7 1/2 feet, which math would say favors the 42 inch. But it'll probably come down to money, and what sort of deal I can get. Costco is running a deal on the 50A10 with the Sony stand for $2399... but if I wait for another Best Buy 10% off promotion for Reward Zone members, I can get a 42A10 for about $1650, and the stand for $250. Plus I'll need to upgrade my DirecTV TiVo STB to the HD version. Expenses, expenses, decisions, decisions... unfortunately I'm locked into having to buy a stand with the TV, because it's going to be replacing an old TV cabinet that won't be big enough to accomodate either a 42 or 50 inch TV.

Well get the stand while you can! I'm still wateing on mine due to back order and the TV will look better with the stand made for it. Plus has a safety clip which is nice so that way it wont fall over by itself.

I've got the SONY KDF-E42A10 and am quite pleased so far. Although the PIP would've been nice and wide angle viewing comparable to that on the other LCD displays would've been great as well. Standing close to the Set looking down, the screen gets quite dull. I really need to get a higher stand.

As for the warranty. I myself am trying to decide whether to get it or not. 'still have 2 weeks before I decide since I got it at J&R in NYC.

Now, although I'm a warranty buying happy kind of guy, there was only one item in my past for which I actually had need for it. 'Can't help thinking that it'll be monies lost if I get one.

PS, just before this, I had the 32 inch Sharp Aquos on which DVDs were spectacular. On this Sony? Well, I go through hell sometimes getting rid of all that grain and stuff. Of course it's a cheap DVD player that I have with progressive scan mind you. Ugggghhhh
