I have a sony kp-65wv600 with convergence problems. The picutre bows (the black bars at top and bottom) and ghost pictures of red blue and green. need help in determining if i can fix this problem myself.

If the bowing is severe then your convergence ICs are shot. See the sticky at the top of the Hitachi forum on convergence problems.

Some people have replaced the convergence ICs themselves. Make sure they are the correct ones for your Sony, as there are different numbers..

Ken,

Before I upgraded to a Sony 60XBR950, I had a 61"XBR that needed convergence adjustments. At first, I knew nothing other than what was described in the manual so I called the dealer where I purchased the set and two guys came out to adjust. From their visit I learned how to access the somewhat removable panel with all of the adjustment pots. I then purchased a service manual from Sony which gave a good deal more info. I'm not a technician but I was able to improve it a good deal more than what the service techs were able to do. I had more time than they did. I used my WOW laser disc which has a cross hatch pattern that I displayed on the TV screen and then adjusted from there. It is tedious and very easy to make much, much worse as I learned from experience. I still remember some of the abbreviations like HRSB (horizontal red sub bow), VBPC (verticle blue pin cushion) along with many, many more! If you have the time and if you are a "tweaker", it can even be fun, especially if the result of your adjustments is good. If I can be of other assistance, let me know.
