I own a Sony KDF-50WE655 I recently purchase a Monster HTS3600 w/ clean power. I was hoping this would help with my pixilated picture issue. Along with the new surge protector I bought a new TV stand to accommodate all of my video equipment. I also had my electrician wire me a dedicated outlet for my entertainment center. I live on the second floor of a Duplex My sat. Dish is at the rear of the house, and my Ent. center is at the front (about 70ft. or so of cable run) I should mentioned that I yet to upgrade my dish to HD (soon don't worry). It is a very old house with lots of new wiring, Romex running this way and that.

And I am aware that it can cause RF noise in a cables signal if the cable is run to close the live wire. So how close is too close, I was told that they can cross at 90-degree angle but can they be next to each other. I tried to be a cautious as possible when running the cable and the Romex. I did however run (or should I say DirecTV did) the cable up through a heating duct. Along side "not inside like cable" I did run the power for my outlet. Then when I set up the new TV stand I tried my best, but wasn't always able to, run video and power as far apart as possible. So let me cut to the chase, after all is said and done running both Sat. cables (TiVo) through the Monster Coax. in filter and out to Sat. receiver using high quality 3ft sections of RF cable I have now a worse picture. There is a pixilated hue some times that seems to move around a bit, if that makes sense. I have noticed that some of the settings in the TV menu, like noise filter and BN filter help but seems to worsen other areas of the picture.

Is it worth it to have a professional come in a tune it in for me. I have troubles with DVD picture too some times. Could it be possible that I am picking up electrical noise? Why did it get worse I haven't tried bypassing the filter of the cables to see if it is the culprit of if I need higher quality cables, or am I too close to some power lines.

Help....Please....!

I doubt that you problem with pixellation is electrical.

Are you using RG6 coax?
How's the problem if you run the coax from the satellite directly to the STB?

Is the problem with DVD's the same as with satellite?

Please don't cross-post. Duplicate was removed. Thanks.

Yes RG6 is being used. And this is the origanal reason why I did all of these changes. It just seems that the picture got worse. The DVD problem is simular, but not quiet as bad. It is more noticable on animations, or text.

If you are picking up electrical noise while playing a dvd, your pq is really the least of your worries. But you can usually track that down by unplugging everything but tv and dvd. Assuming your dvd player isnt older than dirt, needing higher quality cables would depend on the cables you are using now. How much did you spend on your component cable for your dvd player?

Sounds like macroblocking... You are feeding the TV SD material, it's going to stretch it out and show every little defect in it.

Please stop cross posting, it's a small forum, your post will get read here.

I don't remember the price but i believe they were Monsters base model. I intend to eventually buy higher qaulity cables. I hear "Blue jeans" makes a good cable.

More expensive cables aren't going to fix it either, as I mentioned above, do some research on macroblocking, it's a defect of MPEG 2 compression and it's probably what you are seeing.

(or should I say DirecTV did)

Almost certainly your problem... I know it's mine... DirecTV compresses the video in not very flattering ways... hopefully your HD channels will look crisp, do you live in an area where you can get more channels Over the Air?

I have my HD dish in the mail, setup next week... but right now I notice many channels are ok and many are just downright awful... i.e. Fox is painful to watch, but FX is pretty clear and Travel Channel actually looks alright.

Quick question about your DVDs, since you mention animation... have you tried taking a DVD that looks bad on your TV to your local store and asking them to play it so you can compare? That's what I'd advise to make sure it's not just the material... last thing that could cause serious pixelation without it being a problem are some of the zoom modes... does your picture look much better in "Normal" mode?

I have since played with my settings and am finally happy with my picture on DVD's. I still think it could improve, but i need to see a side by side comparison to know. And with taking the DVD to a retailer and asking them to play it may or may not help. I go to some stores and notice that it seems like they just set these things up with factory settings. It is appartant that some tv's pictures are beter then others, coinsidence,I think not.

I also cannot get the picture to look good on any other setting then Pro. (as apposed to Vivid or Standard) It's just there are so many things that can be ajusted on the DVD player(Sony 400 disc.mega changer) and the TV BN,Mild Mode, Digital noise filter, etc. ect.

And on top of that I always wonder if a high quality cable will help. I am starting to realize that if it is digital then it should not matter. Right ?
So is this true for only Sat. signal, will higher quality cables help my DVD picture. I bought just the basic Monster Componant.

Higher quality cables will not matter for digital. It will also not matter for your Mon$ter component, since that cable is more than adequate. Didn't you read the link in post 7?
