Hello,

I bought a Panasonic HDTV TH-42PV500 last week, I also bought the new Xbox 360 to experience some HD gaming. The TV is HD-Ready and it supports 720p & 1080i according to the manual, So I plugged the Xbox using the HD cables (component -YUV, I only Pluged Green-Blue-Red since Yellow is for Analog Video and Red/White for stereo sound (I use 5.1) correct?) and when going to the dash in the xbox image/HD options it's set by default to 480p. OK so I open the menu and here I have 3 options 480p/720p/1080i, so I select 720p/1080i then image gets all messy for around 5 seconds, then I'm asking to keep or not those settings, I select yes, go back and dash says it's STILL 480p I tried everything. (yes cable is set to HDTV)

It's like the Xbox do not recognize TV as an HDTV, or signal is not upscaled/downscaled, I have no idea but I'm desperate I was really looking forward to experience HD, so if you have any idea please post here.

Thx for your help.

Bye

set it to 1080i instead of 720p since your panasonic does'nt accept 720p signals at all.

That seems very strange, those two should work beautifully together. It could be a faulty cable? With your 360 on change the switch on the AV cable to Standard def and then back to hi def, the 360 should reset, if it doesnt then the cable could be faulty. The component on your set should definately support 1080i but you could use the 360's VGA cables ($40) this is what i use on my hitachi pd3000 and it looks AWESOME! my max through component was also 480p. Good luck in getting it working, its WELL worth it! :)

Cr4P - I just set my 360's settings to match my new Panny 44" LCD HD and when you change video modes and get the recaplibration wiggles, then it asks you to select yes or no that you want to save the settings, by default the No is selected - this caught me twice as I simply assumed the highlighted choice would be Yes. So make sure you are actually telling the unit to choose the 1080i by saying Yes rather than easily chooseing No like I did a few times. Good luck and let us know.

is the VGA cable better then the high def cables from the xbox?

VGA, RGB, component... all the same quality.

your not setting your tv to the correct av slots. Read your owners manual for which slots are the actual 1180i/720p. They should be your pb pr y output.

i ment y pb pr input and even they might support 720p/1080i. In that case you have to go with the hdmi cable for xbox360.

Hopefully Cr4P has resolved his problem described in the opening post from 12/05/05. ;)

That's true but there is one weird advantage with VGA and the 360, it will upscale DVD's to 1080i with the VGA cable and it wont with the component.
