I was playing around in the service menu convergence (green). I tinkered it too far, and the TV went blank, but there was still sound. I tried returning the values back to default, when it just powered down. Now when I turn it on, the TV power LED comes on for about 5 seconds then goes back off. Is there any way to reset the default service menu settings at this point or am I in store for an expensive repair? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott
Try unplugging the TV for a few minutes to see if it resets when you plug it back in. There may be someone who knows how to reset convergence on this TV, I don't (I speak Hitachi).
If you didn't damage anything, then the service call may be relatively cheap - say $50-100, if you did damage the convergence board or ICs, etc, you may be looking at $3-400...
Do a search in the Mits forum for "convergence" or "reset" or both or something similar...
Found the following, not sure if it's what you need.

Thanks for the advice. Funny thing is I'm an electronic technician. One of the few that didn't get my start by playing with TVs and VCRs. I went into the military where I learned electronics. So I can repair almost anything if I have the proper documentation. I purcheased the service manual from www.servicemanuals.net. and am currently going over the 13 pages of schematics. Unfortunately, there is no "master reset" code. It appears I have damaged something, probably in the flyback powe supply. There is a large horizontal transistor that I am hoping is the culprit. I will keep updating until I get it fixed myself or take it to a certified Mitsubishi repair center.

I bought and downloaded every manual I could find. I even borrowed test equipment from work to try and repair my TV myself. As stated before, I do not have a lot of experience with TVs. I was finally able to determine that the diagnostics thinks (therefore probably) there is a short. I check every major IC I could determine might be the culprit. No luck! I have given up the dream that I will be able to fix it on my own. The service center is picking the TV up on Friday (1/20/06) and going to repair it. Luckily my old Pioneer SD-T29 still has a fantastic picture (even though it is SD). I know the chances are I probably over looked something obvious. With luck the service center will find the problem quickly and get it fixed inexpensively. Again I will let everyone know what the problem ended up being.
Thanks,
Scott

If anyone out there decides to play around with their service menu without proper training, take it from me. . .DON'T!!!. I hosed up my television set back in Dec. of 2005. I was just called back from the repair shop yesterday (4/5/06). It is ready for delivery. A month ago they called me and said that they were having to send it to Mitubishi for the final repair. What I know so far is I took out the HVPS (high voltage power supply). The repair shop was able to get the TV to at least turn on, but the picture was scrambled. They talked with Mitsubishi for a couple of days before they decided to send it to them. So five months have gone by, I am getting the TV delivered back to my house on Tuesday. I will drop 5 big ones on the repair. My "little experiment" was not worth it. Paying for a Service Manual through eBay would have given me the proper instructions and precautions to "tweak" safely. Never fear, I have already dropped the green for the service manual (should have done that first). I have an electronic copy that I will be willing to send to anyone that want to "play" around with their service menu on the following models: WS-48511, WS-55511, WS-65511, WS-B55 (Best Buy's version of the WS-55151), WS-65611, WS-55711, WS-65711, WS-65712 and WS-73711. I will occassionally chack back hear to see if anyone has posted a reply.
I will also post a detailed description of the work done to my TV after Tuesday.
Thanks for reading this string.
I hope I have helped someone not make the same mistake as I have.

I finally got my television back from the repair shop last Thursday, May 4, 2006. Total time down: 4-1/2 months. The repair sent the chassis back to Mitsubishi for the final repair. The final tally was $515. I can't complain because I have the TV back finally. But none of the inputs except ANT-A was calibrated. I don't personally own the required equipment to properly calibrate the TV to the service manual's specifications (much to my dismay). I have been trying very hard by eyeballing the screen to get everything cal'd. I am not having the best of luck. The convergence was so far out of whack that I fear I will never get the "waviness" out of the picture. Tonight I am going to try restting the whole system and starting over. I don't know what else to do. I am hoping my sad story stops someone else from making the same mistake I made. DO NOT PLAY WITH THE SERVICE MENU UNLESS YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Before I "tinkered," there was absolutely nothing wrong with the TV. The picture is once again good, but it is no longer perfect like it was before. Eventually I will have to hire a certified calibration technician to come to the house and finish what I started. Good luck to everyone out there that feels they can make their TV's picture better.

i have a ws-55511 and the remote and front buttons quit working so I can't change to any of the inputs. I can get the device menu on the screen but I can't do anything after that not even turn it off. I have to push the system reset to get it back. I called Mitsubishi and they couldn't help told me to call a service center. Any way to reset the Net command something

I've posted a while ago, some of the pitfalls...
http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=25544
SM adjustments need to be handled with care and then some...
Glad that your experience was not too extreme and I hope that whatever you were trying to fix in the first place, has been done.
Even as a "seasoned" isf tech... there are so many displays coming out every day that we "techs" are hard pressed to keep up with the flow. The GP needs to be aware that hours of study are a prerequisite before delving into uncharted areas.
