I am picking up my hdtv on 26 dec. It is a Samsung HC-R4755wx. I have checked on the manufacturers website as well as looked in the manual which indicates that it accepts 480i,480p,720p,and 1080i component input. My question is this. I have read on this forum and Keohi HDTV site that crt are impossible of rendering a native 720 p display does anybody know how this is handled with xbox 360 as this may effect my decision to purchase. Should my tv convert to 480p or 1080i (or is the 720p comment i have read incorrrect)also how is the quality of the movie dvd's picture on component input any help would be greatly appreciated. (One of my main decisions with this tv was having DVI, Optical audio and coax digital audio ,2 sets of component inputs and a hdtv tuner all at $999 w/stand- I hope I don't regret it.)

I play on my CRT and it looks Amazing I had it set to 1080i for the first week with no problems ,now have it set to 720p and notice no diffrence . as a dvd player I'm not impressed and will use my reciever to pass my dvd and xbox360 thru to the tv when I get the needed wires for Xmas.just check to see if your new tv has the hook ups needed for both(mine doesn't) ,or hey mabey you'll love the 360 as a DVD player wife says I'm nuts but the blacks look wierd to me and the colors not as bright.

Newer consumer CRT-based HDTVs convert the incoming 720P signals (if accepted) to the native format, which is 1080i.

The Xbox360 can send a 480i/480p/720p/1080i signal to your display device. If your device accepts 720p then the X360 can send 720p and your TV will convert it to 1080i (the TV's native display format). Or you can set the X360 to send 1080i signals and your TV will display that.

I have my X360 set at 1080i sending to my CRT based RPTV (Hitachi 57")-(native 1080i display) and the picture/video is fantastic.

Don't use my game consoles as DVD players....so I can't tell you how it functions there. I use it as a game machine :)

From my experience it is better to set your 360 to display 720p and to let your tv do the conversion to 1080i as the tv will more than likely will do a better job with it, I know mine does.
