I have the same question but not the same options to test it out. How does a 480p (xbox360) dvd player compare to an upscaling dvd player 720p to 1080i on a 0 to 10 scale with 10 being the best. ( Just for reference I would say that HDTV reception at 1080i is 10/10 vs. standard definition at 480i is 6/10.) If the difference is small then maybe it's better to invest in the xbox360, or maybe its significant enough to warrant an upscaling model.

IMO... use you're a 'gamer' use a 360 and enjoy. Save your pennies for a standalone HD-DVD/BluRay when they become available.

I used my 360 for a week before hooking back my panasonic,the 360 is not that good+it's loud.
