Samsung HD850 Lip Sync

Hi all
just purchased Sammy DVD HD850... after routing the HDMI to my Sony SXRD, I have notice lip sync on a few DVD's..... Do any of you out there encounter this problem? Any ways to fix it since the HD850 does not have a AV delay fxn?

This is usually due to a problem with the firmware of the DVD player. Check with Samsung to see if they have an update for your player.

You can also try changing the output resolution, that sometimes works, but may affect PQ. (This works sometimes because the TV may "delay" the signal when it has to do a conversion.) This has typically been a Samsung TV problem, not a Sony TV, but the XSRDs are pretty new...

Interesting post.

I bought the exact same player and hooked it to me akai plasma (pdp5025). I thought that I had noticed the same effect. However, it was very, VERY close, so it was almost ignorable.

I thought it was just me, but I'm certainly going to check this out. I'm open to suggestions.

Lip-Sync error is a widespread problem and almost all high end displays suffer upwards of 100 ms video delay which lets the audio get that much more ahead of the image. I say"more ahead" because most broadcsaters also delay video more than audio at every point they perform dgital switching or digital effects. There are several great articles on this subject on the TECHNICAL DETAILS page of www.LipFix.com . In fact one of them is a research paper from Stanford which concludes that even lip-sync error that is NOT noticed "consciously" causes viewers to be less persuaded or distrustful of the material being watched. Amazing the trouble we go to to achieve the perfect image to create a totally "immersive" home theater environment only to have that image processing cause lip-sync error making it LESS "immersive"!
