I am about to purchase a DLP TV (Samsung 50" HLR5067) and currently own a Logitech 5500z 5.1 system. I was planning on positioning the sub under the TV stand with the DLP set above leaving no more than 8 inches between the top of the sub and the bottom of the DLP Projection TV. Do the electromagnetic fields produced by the subwoofer harm the DLP TV or the picture in any way? All searches on the web tell my Plasmas are not harmed but nothing about the DLPs! Thanks!

Well, the subwoofer vibrates, yes?

Putting it under the DLP on the DLP's stand sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Your DLP has a colour wheel that rotates at over ten thousand RPM, micro-mirrors moving (wobble action) plus the fan cooling the bulb to light up the picture. All this internal action is going on mechanically.
Any vibration from the sub I would think could do more damage than any electro-magnetic one.
Flat panels like plasmas are mounted on walls with the subs on the floor and in other setups, the plasmas (or LCD panels) are on stands designed for them with the sub again on the floor, not underneath.
I have done many, many setups and never ever have had the subwoofer under the HDTV's stand, regardless of display type.

Surely, you can position your subwoofer anywhere in the room other than that as there is no perfect location for a sub - it can be in the side of the room, back of the room and so on.

I do live in a small condo and the sub location is limited. The sub would not be touching the TV stand. I have a little one that is reaching the age of reaching for everything so the idea was to keep the wires out of his reach. If i do not position the sub under the stand, how far do you recommend the sub to be placed away from the TV?

Place your subwoofer anywhere except on the TV or its stand.
Many folks do not even put there subs anywhere near the other speakers.

Okay, The Mrs. and I are hacking at the room orientation right now and it is quite civilized so far. Without touching the TV stand, can I position the sub with a 6" gap just to the right of the imaginary corner TV stand? "It is a wires thing" she says.

Yes, most folks I know who are space-deprived insert the subwoofer immediately next to the TV stand - right or left of it - with the right or left channel front speaker next to it or even to the right after it or in front of it.
It helps hide the wires, too....does this help?
All I was trying to do is make sure your DLP was not in any way going to be hit directly by that subwoofer.
Try aiming the subs' boom ports directionally out towards you instead of at the HDTV set or even at the wall if that becomes necessary for you unless the condo wall faces another condo.
