Hey guys, hope this is the right place to post question.
I have a 42"samgsung dlp and a samsung hd850 dvd player, getting rogers hd box next week.My question is what cables should i use, one guy says use component cables and ive read hdmi is better.I have a set of monster component cables going through dvd player picture quality is pretty sweet, would i see better picture going hdmi straight to tv from player?and hdmi from hd box to tv?The cables are darn pricey.Any sugestions would be greatly apreciated, thanks and happy new year, dano.

The Samsung HD850, like most upconverting DVD players, will only upconvert via HDMI and not component. So if you're using component, then you may as well have a cheaper progressive DVD player instead of the upconverting Samsung. I suspect HDMI would be better; try both and see but that's what most people find.
Monster cables are way overpriced; stores push them because they have high margins. With digital, either the bits get there or they don't, so there's no subtle subjective quality factors. If you're talking about a short HDMI cable (6 feet or so) just order a cheap one online. Monoprice is one good source but I don't know if they ship to Canada.

Use your HDMI for the HD cable, component for the HD850 and do some serious shopping for cabling for both.
I found the equivalent HDMI to HDMI cable at 6 feet vs. 2 metres for half price along with component cables similar, only more discounted. :)
