quick and short --> I got this unit off ebay, but the prior owner DID not unlock the password. Needless to say i'm trying to restart everything, but I cannot, because i'm at this road block. Is there some other way to reset this machine to factory settings (aside from going to tivo's setup)
Thanks,
burntass
Is the default password 0000? Just a guess.

I tried all the obvious ones... 0000, 1234, 1000, 2000, 1111, 2222, etc.. no luck
The last 4 digits of the previous owner's phone number, or their address?

Can't you contact the seller and ask?
Or... perhaps that's why they sold it! :)
Call D* at 1-800-494-4388, they can clear the password over the SAT.
If you are looking at the on screen menus DO NOT DO THIS as it will reformat the hard drive and clear everything but maybe not the password!
D* button
Messages & Setup
Restart or Reset System
Clear & Delete Everything
A simple call to D* will take care of it. They will ask for some system information so you will need to be in front of the TV

I did actually call D last night, but i've got bigger issues: The IRD account for the DVR is still considered 'active' standing, so they couldnt anything until otherwise. Also the access card that came with the unit is the incorrect one (for the box), as it is married to another IRD, to make matters worse.
I've emailed the seller, but I think they just deal in reselling bulk items and are not the first hand owners.:(
Then I guess the question is, what will it take to make everything right? Or maybe how much?
Sorry,
Lee
