Ok here is my problem. I bought the new xbox 360 right. That can transmit in hd with component. My tv only has hd input and my receiver has none. Now, I currently have my hd/dvr hooked up on the tv, therefore Im stuck here since I want to also use the slot for the xbox. Now I can either go get a component splitter which will cost me $99 and add that to the res tof equipment that I own or I can spend an additional $200 intstead. Total $299 on a new receiver that has to component inputs and also optical. I kinda want a new receiver. Dont get me wrong the one I have now is great but I kinda dont really want to spend more. But if I do I might as well go for it. SO Im stuck. What would any of you recommend? :( :(

Go with the switcher. Personally I would wait, with HD DVD/BR comming out there will be new receivers out that will have more than 2 component inputs. Plus, I have also heard of new receivers doing "HD Audio". Not sure exactly what that is, but I would assume as the push for HD movies comes out the HD Audio feature would be nice.

Be aware that HD-DVD/BRD may require DVI or HDMI to view HD video.

Ratman, do you think any HD DVD/BR players will allow playback through component cables? I also own a Samsung TXP 3064W, and get a better picture in my opinion using component instead of DVI. I am still using component for my Samsung DLP, because I just think the picture is better verses HDMI on that also. I have read that a few other people like component better verses HDMI/DVI. Just curious, I know it may be too early to tell.

Initially... highly doubtful. Down the road... perhaps (from a Brand X company or some type of hack).

What about the HD-DVD for the xbox 360? That hooks up with component and will play HD-dvds.

Um DVD=480i tops
HD 720p Min
DVD as we have it now will never be HD.
