I have read the Faq's but still a little confused. I have a Toshiba DVD player set to 16X9 and progressive scan. We watched "Identity" lastnight in anamorphic Widescreen. The picture quality looked great, but my question is does everyone with a 16X9 tv still see the black bars on the top and bottom? I made sure the settings were all correct on the tv and dvd player. Just curious to see if a every widescreen movie should display the black bars on the top and bottom when watched in the widescreen mode on my 16x9 TV. Appreciate any feed back.

If you are referring to the movie Identity with John Cusack, then you will still have black bars on the top and bottom. That movie/DVD is presented in a 2.40:1 aspect ratio. A 16x9 television is 1.78:1 aspect ratio.

Therefore, any movie with a number larger than 1.78 will have black bars on the top and bottom. The larger the numbers, the larger the black bars on the top and bottom. The smaller the number, the larger the black bars on the sides.

Hope this helped some.
