View Full Version : Question on LCD Stuck Pixels

I am in the market for a 23" HDTV for the bedroom. I will be viewing the set from about 3.5 feet away. I do not have room for a 26" set so my only choice is a 23" or smaller LCD TV. I am thinking about the Sony HLV-S23A10. I am worried about something I read in the Sony Manual. I realize that all brands probably state the same thing, but I quote Sony "Although the LCD Screen is made with high-precision technology, and has effective pixels of 99.99% or more, black dots may appear or bright points of light (red, blue, or green) may appear constantly on the LCD Screen. This is a structural property of the LCD panel and is not a malfunction."

How prevelant is the problem, and is it something that is easily visible on a 23" screen from 3.5 feet? If 1 pixel is "black", would that be visible on a white background, or would there have to be a cluster of pixels together to be visible? I would hate to spend $900.00 on a 23" TV and be staring at colored dots whenever I watch it. No manufacturer that I know makes a 23" CRT TV so it's LCD or nothing.

I currently own a 26" Philips CRT HDTV, which looks fine from a distance, but from 4 ft away looks Very grainy which is another reason to go to a smaller screen from that short distance.

Thanking you in advance,
GM

It's amazing how few sets actually have stuck (dead) pixel issues. Do a seach for "dead pixel*" in the site's search engine...

I just scanned my 19" LCD computer monitor and found several black dots, but they were all dust. ;)

I have a 20" LCD with three stuck subpixels. (granted 1600x1200 so 1.92 million pixels) It sucks having dead pixels. I am looking at buying an LCD RPTV, hoping I wont get any dead pixels. There are a lot fewer pixels in TVs though so less of a chance (1280x720=921600)

Where are the big screen TVs with the same pixel density as my monitor?

I did buy a 19" lcd monitor for my computer and it did have one dead pixel. It was blue I could only see it on certain screen imiges, and from a distance could not see it at all. I wouldn't worry about that.

How big dose it look anyway? Guess that depends on the size of the screen too.

It is very small . about the size of the period on this screen.

I have a dead pixel on my 42inc rplcd TV. Its not black, it almost looks like a single pixel that is brighter than the rest.

When I stand 1 foot away from the screen I can see it. When I stand 2 feet away I have a hard time seeing it. When I stand 3 feet away its impossible to find it.

I also have very sharp eyesight and im incredibly picky. when I first noticed it I was like "damn it" then I laughed at how it litterally dissapears when you walk only a few feet away. You can stare as hard as you want at the pixel and slowly walk backwards. once you hit 2-3 feet its impossible to tell where it is.
